US Tipping Etiquette
In the United States, tipping is customary for table service at restaurants, bars, hair salons, taxis, and delivery services. The standard tip ranges from 15% to 20% of the pre-tax bill, with 18-20% being the most common for good service. For exceptional service, 25% or more is appropriate.
Unlike many other countries, tips make up a significant portion of service workers pay. The federal tipped minimum wage is just $2.13 per hour, with tips expected to bring total compensation to at least the regular minimum wage.
